The word “Dalit” is a word taken from Sanskrit language. In Sanskrit, the word “Dalit” is made from the root “Dal” which means to split, to break, to divide etc., but why did this word come into Indian politics and how did it become so important for politics and where did this caste division come from? Let us try to find out…
There was no use of the word “Dalit” for caste in the history of India till 1880, nor was the word “Dalit” used in any of our Vedas, Puranas or religious books, nor is it used today, yet this word has become a part of Indian politics. This is a big issue for us. Where did the use of this word come from, and where did such caste division come from where Brahmins, Chhatriyas, Baniyas etc. are among the upper castes among which Brahmins are the highest and Chamar, Bhangi are the Dalit castes which are the lowest? And this caste division is only for Sanatan Dharma. Whereas in the religious books of our Sanatan Dharma it is told that Kshatriyas considered Brahmins as Guru and Brahmins considered Valmiki as Guru, who was neither a Kshatriya nor a Brahmin.
The British rule was going on in India and the foundation of this British rule was laid on the principle of “divide and rule” or “divide and rule”! Due to this thinking, the British, realizing the monarchy in India, started ruling India by indulging the kings among themselves, but whose cooperation was most important in governance, it was the people of India, to rule India. It was very important to break or divide the people, due to which the British started dividing the people in the name of religion by creating religious discord in India.
Since there were Hindu majority princely states in India and a large part of the population of India were worshipers of Sanatan Dharma and they could not be broken in the name of religion and without dividing them it was very difficult to rule India, this problem was sought for success. There is a word “Dalit”, which means to split, to break, to break, to divide etc.
Jyotiba Phule, founder of the Satya Shodhak Samaj, a non-Brahmin movement in Maharashtra, is believed to have coined the term “Dalit”. William Hunter and Jyotirao Phule had originally conceived the idea of caste-based reservation system in 1882 and since then the caste division started which is on a very large scale today, this division is going on only for Hindu religion. There is no religious division in any other religion even today.
From the year 1882 itself, the era of ruling India on the basis of caste reservation started, which is still standing very strongly, which is today known as caste rights. Today in India, “Dalit” is not just a word but has become “Dalit community” which in simple language is called backward caste. Today, there is a huge vote bank in India in the name of “Dalit” and there are many political parties in their name which call themselves supporters of the “Dalit” society.
There is a great need for us to think about how and why the politics of religious division which started during the British period is continuing till today, why even today there is a huge vote bank in the name of the word “Dalit” and people call themselves “Dalits”. “A lot of leaders are being born who say “protector of!” Whereas the government is providing free education, food grains, houses, free treatment etc. in which education is the most important which can make you a great scholar and in India it is being given free to those who have been made “Dalit” society. Then what does your thinking say…
